If you’re planning a day at the beach, it should be a fun experience. It’s also a serious one, though, especially if you have kids that you’re bringing along. So, you should have a to do list and you should start with the essentials.

To begin with, you’ll want to pack enough towels or blankets for people to both sit on and dry off with when they come out of the water. You should also bring a beach umbrella, sunglasses and hats to protect your family from catching too many of the sun’s harsh rays.

Another thing that you need to be careful of at the beach is wearing the right sunblock. Different skin types require different sunblock strengths. So, you have to find the one or ones that are right for your family. Put some on before you get to the beach and also take it with you, so that you can reapply it, if needed.

Next, remember that it’s easy to get dehydrated in the heat. Prepare a cooler with plenty of water and other cold drinks. That way, everyone will be able to keep cool and hydrated and the experience will stay fun and safe.

Of course, to your kids there are other essentials, like toys. Don’t forget to pack the buckets, shovels, beach volleyball supplies or anything else that everyone enjoys.

Finally, especially if you have small kids, make sure that you check to see if the beach that you plan to visit has a lifeguard on duty. After all, the point of a family day at the beach is to have fun, but it’s also to stay safe.
